HOPE

"Spirituality is neither the privilege of the poor nor the luxury of the rich. It is the choice of the wise."

-Swami Chinmayananda

Chinmaya Mission was established in Flint, Michigan in 1988 by the devotees of the local Genesee County renowned Vedanta teacher, His Holiness Swami Chinmayananda. Guided by his vision, devotees all around the Genesee County formed the nucleus of a spiritual renaissance movement that now encompasses a wide range of spiritual, educational, and charitable activities, enabling the lives of thousands in the county & surrounding area.  Presently, headed by His Holiness Swami Swaroopananda, the Mission is administered by Chinmaya Mission Flint, DBA Chinmaya Seva Samiti Flint Located at 6499 W Calkins Rd Flint MI 48532. Under his guidance, the Mission has continued mushrooming across the county area.

Our mission is to provide to individuals from any background, the wisdom of Vedanta and the practical means for spiritual growth and happiness, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.

Our Vision is the inner transformation of individuals through knowledge of Vedanta, spiritual practices, and service to society, resulting in a happy world around them.

In the ninth chapter of the Bhagawad Geeta, Shri Krishna says,
“One who makes an inner resolve and takes a firm decision to follow the path of righteousness should be considered a sadhu”.
A pledge is a sankalpa or a vow. It is a decision that helps to bring about an inner transformation. You become a seeker the moment you take a sankalpa or decision. It is this sankalpa shakti which acts as the catalyst that changes an ordinary man into a historic personality.

The Chinmaya Mission Pledge is a direct message to us from Swami Chinmayananda. In an inspired mood, Swamiji spontaneously dictated this pledge at a conference of Chinmaya Mission Devotees. He said that this pledge would act as a guide to all mission members and to people in general. This pledge conveys the very essence of the scriptures and in simple words tells us the goal of life and how to live it. This great Mahatma’s life’s message has been summed up in a few simple sentences or aphorisms in the pledge.

Chinmaya Mission Flint Pledge:

We stand as one family, bound to each other with love and respect.

We serve as an army, courageous and disciplined, ever ready to fight against all low tendencies and false values, within and without us.

We live honestly the noble life of sacrifice and service, producing more than what we consume and giving more than what we take.

We seek the Lord’s grace to keep us on the path of virtue, courage, and wisdom.

May thy grace and blessings flow through us to the world around us.

We believe that the service of our country is the service of the Lord of Lords, and devotion to the people
is devotion to the supreme Self.

We know our responsibilities.

Give us the ability and courage to fulfill them.

"Stop all your attachments to false values. In an ever changing world, there is nothing worthwhile for us to desire or weep for. Joys and sorrows are bound come in human life; they are just like the two sides of the same coin."

To live, you should have an ideal."
